Video: Dan Ramos presents “First Time Stand-Up Comedian Andrew Santos”

You might know Dan Ramos from his appearances on Laugh Sabbath or for his work with sketch troupe Touch My Stereotype (I’ve featured him a couple times on the blog). So I was perplexed to hear that he was performing stand-up for the first time last week. “Surely there are no second chances at first impressions,” I declared to my powdered wigged compatriots. Turns out “first time doing stand-up” was his shtick and not his status update.

Taking up the handle “Andrew Santos,” Ramos intentionally bombed in front of an unfamiliar crowd at an open mic at Hart House, doing everything spectacularly wrong (except maybe the Valentine’s day joke) to illicit a reaction. The results were decidedly mixed. There is some pity laughter, numerous heckles and whole lot of texting going on.

Personally I’m not sure on this one. Is it brilliant anti-comedy or just a fun way to piss people off? Let me know what you think in the comments.

If you loved this then you can follow Dan Ramos on twitter @DANRAMOStache. Even if you didn’t you should probably follow him anyway.
